my thoughts ,if your car is not insured by law you are not able to drive it on the public roads even going to the shops

well the vehicle has been without an mot for a bit over 4 months, driven regularly but it seems not in sight of a police car that has noted expired mot. Driver has history for driving without mot. As driving without an mot does not involve points on a license or it seems invoke insurance police have other priorities that are more important and so the driver gets away with it.
I hope the driver gets their comeuppance.

4 months, lack of police resource, no wonder so many drive with no mot.

If it was not down on the mot as an advisory, I would be getting in touch with the DVLA and putting in a strong complaint about the mot station it was tested at. How many more are on the road in a similar condition? If it was down as an advisory, it was up to the owner of the car to keep an eye on and repair ASAP.

I haven't seen the certificate. But how many of our arms, get through, only for them to fail a few months later? My own car had two broken rear springs (only the last 1.5 inches of the tails) for at least 4 mots.

The point is an mot is not a proof of roadworthiness. It states this on the certificate. It is simply a certificate that proves that the vehicle met the required standards at a particular point in time (I believe a vehicle can be put through a test, at any time, by the relevant authorities if it suspects an issue).

A driving test is probably a more accurate assessment of my point. You pass a driving test because you met the required standards at that time. How many on the road do you would fail that standard? Yet they have a piece of paper saying they are competent. Failure to maintain that competency explains the number of dangerous and careless driving charges. Of those charged, how many believe themselves to be competent?
