Question Rear left caliper keeps ceasing

I've unjammed it twice now, next step would be to remove the piston to give it a good clean including inside the caliper.. with new seals, or but a new 1 on rimmer bros for £60.

Or if someone local to suffolk has a spare going alittle cheaper

Here you go - something a little cheaper.

I don't expect the quality will be exceptional at this price but it may last a few years.

Personally, I would rebuild the original with a new piston/sel kit from Big Redd.

I had the same problem earlier this year. I fitted the Big Redd kit to mine and it was fine for MOT. Seized up again a couple of months later though, so I buy the bullet and replaced the caliper. All good so far.

No complaints about the Big Redd kit, it was fine, but for the price difference, I wish I'd just replaced there caliper from the start. Bought it from Advantage Autoparts on eBay

I would never ever use the kits from this company ever again, the rubber lasted less than 12 months........absolute rubbish and certainly not fit for purpose

The better option is of course an original from Rimmer Bros at £60, there should be no need to ever worry about it again in the lifetime of the car.

What price do you place on safety?

I rebuilt mine a few months back. No issues so far. Let's see how it goes.

There doesn't seem to be much negativity about their kits on the net.

I am with Brian on the Bigg Red seals. No elasticity in the seals, first one split, the second would have if I didnt give up on it.

I went with BrakesInt the second time around. THESE Went on relatively easily and were just as tight as the Bigg Red, but felt more like rubber than plastic, and seemed like it was slightly more 'rubber' to move during lateral movement of the piston. (The fronts were of a different design, and the Bigg Red seals seemed adequate for them - but they were rebuilt first).

You can get replacement calipers HERE . the casting looks rough though on those, but I cannot comment other than the photo.
