Default Rubber trim at bottom of windscreen

I don’t know if anyone ever notices how the rubber trim That fits at the bottom of windscreen, and rests on the bottom of the windscreen, shrinks. Changed the pollen filter today and done a bit of cleaning up, noticed that the rubber trim has shrunk by around 2/3 inches. I can not find it on rimmers site, and wondered if anyone else had ever found a supplier for this trim? This is on the KV6, but the diesel is the same to a lesser effect. So if anyone knows where I can get some from, I will be very grateful.

I suspect they are deliberately 'short' to leave an overflow gap at each end.
The item has been NLA from Rimmers for some time.

They are meant to be the full length of the scuttle, I know some members have joined two together to fill up the gaps.

it is secured with double sided tape which dries out and the rubber shrinks.

Remove it totally, scrub off any remnants of the tape from the rubber and the scuttle panel, then coil up the rubber in a pan of water and bring it to the boil for at least five minutes.

The rubber can now be gently stretched, and will remain so for several minutes, long enough to enable contact adhesive to be applied to the rubber and the scuttle.

When you start fixing the rubber to the plastic allow a small 1/4" overlap, then work the rubber along carefully as this is a one shot being contact adhesive.

When you are approaching around 12" from the end, you will find one of two things, either the rubber appears to be miles too long (anything up to 3") or ever so slightly short, if its the latter, simply stretch it gently as the last section is worked into place.

Clamp off the ends with a couple of bulldog clips, then roll the edge with a rubber wallpaper seam roller, allow it to sit for a couple of hours, trim the excess and refit the scuttle.

In a surprising twist of happenstance I bought this https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Car-Agei...72.m2749.l2649
only a day or so ago.
I don't have it yet so can't comment on the quality.

Good thread!
My trim has retracted too so this is helpful.
Baroquemoon, let us know how the ebay rubber works out.
Brian, thanks for the how-to.

I bought something suitable from Seals+Direct some 6 years ago. Bought 2 metres for £10. 57 still ok today.

It's on www.sealsdirect.co.uk item code AT2007, description BRS 1505 Automotive Seal ( miscellaneous). It's still the same price today £2.53 p/metre but p&p may have gone up.

After receiving the new silicone seal I can say that the size is not identical. It is smaller. The thing is...it's only 2mm smaller in height and more than enough length for our windscreens. It fits perfectly after a trim either end and I could not tell the difference without measuring or comparing old with new.

I routinely soak all silicone rubber parts in 303 aerospace protectant for 24 hours prior to fitment.
This habit was formed by my fathers trust in 303 aerospace protectant.
He was an aerospace engineer and trusted the product.
Anyway.....

It fits. It will only need to be replaced in a decade or more so...
I think it's worth a shot.

Conditions here in the colonies are different from the motherland so your mileage may vary.

What could possibly go wrong

Thank you, Martyn! The outfit still exists and they have stock of AT2007. (U Channel With Lip - 1.7mm Panel x 18mm Height). It's just for the bottom of my windscreen ..... does the glass need to be removed, and do you favour the adhesive or the silicone sealant?
