Blocked heater matrix - 2.5 v6
Hi
I know nothing about the 2.5 engine so can anybody give me any idea as to how big a job replacing the heater matrix is, and what sort of costs the parts would be, and how many labour hours would be involved please? |

and .... errr ... no! the car is still off the road with what now appears to be master brake cylinder problems - only one circuit is providing a back pressure to the pedal so at some time I will try another MC. I will say the enthusiasm for the car is waning since changing all the air con pump and condenser, new ABS and loom etc., as I seem to have less time to do all my old jobs now even after retiring! I don't want to, but I must consider moving the car on very soon as there is no work coming in to pay for rather a large workshop....

Thanks to all who replied.
I was trying to gauge the worst case scenario cost wise if a new one had to be sourced and fitted |

Blocked heater matrix
What's the background to this Gerard?
I would attempt a flushing operation first with the matrix in situ. Simon

I bought the car for the interior Simon (I couldn't find anybody who was willing to post one to N.I and I've wanted to swap the sandstone in my saloon for black for a long time).
www.the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?p=2423173 I had intended to use it as a donor car, but since having it collected, it's far too good for that. My brother has spoken to the previous owner who tells us the car sat up for over a year for health reasons. Then in October it was put through the MOT but health didn't improve and it ended up with the trader I bought it off. The mileage (only 55k) is verifiable. The car has a couple of minor cosmetic blemishes, and needs a few things (like battery box cover) but heater matrix & airbag aside doesn't register any faults when live tested on a diagnostic scanner. I've done the plenums and changed the gearbox oil today because it's the only thing that doesn't appear to have ever been done. I can't possibly justify scrapping this, but I don't like to sell anything that isn't 100%. I'm going to try a flush first |

Infrequent use, or laying-up, encourages faults to develop in my experience. If you start using the car regularly you might be surprised to find that the matrix output improves.
Have you drained the cooling system entirely to renew the antifreeze? When you do, don't overlook the drain plug on the LH cylinder block. It's also important to refill and bleed the V6 according to MGR's procedure. Simon
