Default whistling turbo!

Rover 75 cdt auto - having just had the flexi pipe replaced on the exhaust with a new one , on acceleration there is now a little whistle from the turbo, wasn't there before but there was a small hole in the flexi, it was the original part.

Is this normal ,there is no lack of power. I seem to remember that some other makes used to whistle when accelerating and the turbo kicked in.

Cheers Dave.

Why did you fit a flexi with a hole in it? Strange!

I would say something is not quite lined up.
A while ago my rear hanger snapped so it was tied up for a couple of days until it could be fixed.
All the time it was tied up there was a whistle from the turbo , fixed the hanger and whistle disappeared.
Nothing wrong with the front just hanging low at the back caused it.
Hope its helps

Stan

You have air escaping under boost David, check the pipes from the pressurised side of the turbo..

Your description is typical exhaust whistle, so I reckon it's probably from the new work. How is the new flex section fastened to the system? Could the new section have a gas leak? From a flange gasket, clamp joint, weld??

Flexi has been welded at both ends, spoke to garage and they say pop back in and they will double check their work, so will return car and see what transpires.

I have to agree with Andy, experienced it a couple of times on trucks.
