Ex-Rover workers "earning less".
Most of the 6,300 workers laid off with the collapse of MG Rover in 2005 had to take substantial pay cuts
when they found new jobs, research suggests. The Work Foundation and Birmingham Business School found that 90% of people questioned were in some form of employment by April this year, while 10% were living and relying on State Benefits. But two thirds were earning less, with the cuts averaging £5,640 a year on the 2005 Pay Rates. Some of this in some quarters is put down to reason MG Rover failed as was Paying far more than average Salaries, and rates that the Industry could not afford. The BBC's Martin Shankleman says the report could offer lessons for Policy-makers amid rising unemployment. The survey was IMHO to smaller sample of Staff interviewed to come to the Conclusions drawn. Although wages were in certain Industries to high to be sustained. |

Exactly what's happening elsewhere and one of the reason why Ford want to close the Transit plant in Southampton and transfer production to Turkey. In my opinion, the workers only have themselves to blame having beaten the management down in times past for over inflation / above average wage deals etc. Now it's come back to bite them in the butt they don't like it.
