Default Two clutches in the 1999 CDTi?

Hello Everyone,

my name is Enzo, happy owner of a 75 2000cc CDTi from 1999. This is my first post so I'd like to thank the administrators for kindly agreeing to have me on board -- thanks very much!

I also would use the occasion to post a question. I have currently a problem with my clutch and I've contacted a garage to have it fixed. I asked for a price but the people there told me that there are actually two types of clutch systems for my Rover, so they have to verify first which type it is. This seemed strange to me -- Is it true that for this model there exist two types of clutches? Could you please let me know? Thank you very much

With kind regards,
Enzo

welcome Enzo to the forum, I'm sure someone will be along soon with the answer.
What seems to be the problem with your clutch?

Only one type of system for your car, find a different garage!

Thank you very much for your welcoming message, macafee2!
I was driving on the highway when the gearbox stopped working -- couldn't change speed anymore. Luckily I could leave the highway and stop the car safely. With the car stopped, I could change the speed. I turned the car on -- same problem, and the clutch pedal was now totally flat. They told me it's indeed a problem with the clutch. My 75 has 210,000km so maybe I had to expect this...

It sounds as if either the clutch master cylinder or clutch slave cylinder is leaking. Try and feel around the master cylinder which is attached to the clutch pedal for any signs of a leak.
You could try bleeding the clutch system just in case a bleed solves the problem, hope for the best but expect the worst, sorry to indicate bad news

Sounds like loss of hydraulic fluid from a failed master or slave cylinder. If it's the master cylinder, you may not need a new clutch. If it's the slave, the clutch may be contaminated with fluid and require replacing. Both issues are very common and there is a lot of experience available from forum members. If the clutch has covered 200K+, it's probably best to replace it anyway.

Hello and welcome
Sorry to hear of your problems but it's somthing most diesel 75/ZT owners have to do at some stage.
With that milage it may be a good idea to change everything in the clutch system at the same time..Master cylinder slave cylinder and clutch.
Take advice from the guys on here on the best parts to get fitted.
I see you are in Belgium some of us are visiting the Best of British show at Boxtel NL in a couple of weeks why not come and say hello. Someone may even be able to find some more horses in that engine.

regards Ian

This what you want a 3 piece clutch kit - your MGR dual mass flywheel is considered to be very robust and fails rarely. However many advise that when the slave cylinder fails also replace the Master Cylinder as well .
