Evidently the British Police don't chase Foreign drivers for any offences? Told to me by a Breakdown driver recently- and I think he may be right-that I find more annoying than getting done. To be respected law must be applied to all. Chris.S.

I was speaking to a friend about this today and he was telling me he had 6 tickets from his visit to France earlier in the year. The first one he put down to ''bad luck'' but when the others started arriving over the following weeks he started spitting feathers.

He reckons we are being picked on because of the ''B'' word as he reckons at no point did he drive any faster than the traffic flow.

Not that I plan on trying it but it would be interesting to actually see what happens if a fine is not paid.

Hi Brian.
Just as well you forgot to upgrade mine then, stroke of luck.

You talk for yourself. I was always upright and honest till I met you. You should be ashamed of yourself, a man of the cloth.

Perhaps all the other drivers around him got done too, because they were all keeping up with the traffic flow. We have a tendency in UK to treat the speed limit as a target, not a maximum. And because we don't spend enough money on our Police force, they are thin on the ground, and people get away with breaking the law (not necessarily speeding - I saw a kid riding through Newcastle on a mini-moto today, - I saw perhaps 4 to 6 police vehicles in my drive from Penrith to Tynemouth and back via Carlisle ,(around 140 miles) Both my wife and I recently got tickets on the same day, for speeding in different cars, on different days and roads in our home county of Cumbria, both within 5mph of the limit. You just have to suck it up and hopefully remember the lessons learned.

Meanwhile I think I will have to get a paper round.
Surely if no signs pointing out the speed limit, & paper work with the wrong date on they are not legal and would not have to be paid? it is worth finding out, ask one of our members from there to ask or find out what the law says from there.

Already asked for a photo. Good idea about asking one of the Dutch associates for a qualified opinion. I had thought of that, but I also thought that all they need to do then is send it to me again. Then the lightbulb moment when I realised the demand would then be over the 14 day time limit. There is a phone number on the demand that I might phone this afternoon.Down in Summerzet at the mo so will have to be by mobile. See what transpires.

Surely who ever was leading the convoy is responsible to pay all the fines?...
