When we first started to go over to the ‘other side’, we used to go Dover- Ostend on the ferry. Book a cabin and catch the 1.00am ferry. Get around 4/5 hours sleep, then drive to the other side of Koln. Nice except sometimes the ferry did not set off because of bad weather. We started going over 3 weeks after the Zeebruge?ferry disaster. Had a few hairy moments trying to get into Dover on the way back, and once getting Calais harbour..... with the front up in the air, just what caused the Zeebruge disaster. Had to go back out because the stupid captain did not know that there was no space for us. Brittany Ferries. Give me the shuttle any day.
