I've been under and over that bridge, with family, several times. A fully loaded container ship would wipe out a lot of stuff, let alone a steel framed bridge support. Time will tell what caused this and there will no doubt have been lives lost here, so thank goodness it was not at a busier time, when thousands would be crossing. It was a custom for the local small boat owners to "holler" as you passed underneath.

Saw it on GB news. It does look like the ship was having power outages for some reason as it approached the bridge - its lights were alternating on and off.

Not sure "oops" is an appropriate thread title when authorities are still searching for six missing members of a crew working on the bridge at the time of the incident. There's also the possibility of bodies in a number of vehicles detected by sonar.

I posted before full facts were known Steve, just thought it was a ship hitting a bridge. Perhaps a mod could amend the title?

I'm guessing that the power outage (speclation of "dirty" fuel in a generator engine) would make many "modern" ships unsteerable at such short notice, as is the case with cars that run on electronic sensors, as driving "aids"! Condolences to families of the lost.
