Default If you need stays/struts for bonnet etc

This is a FWIW post
If you need stays/struts for bonnet etc SGS Engineering probably do them and may only need the long number that is along the side of the stay. You may not need to measure the stay. If you do measure the stay, apparently you measure it open not closed.

I have ordered two for my caravan, I hope they are good.

Still SGS but something different
I have an SGS TJ3 Trolley jack and I think it is dangerous.
It drops the car not lower it. I have ordered a new seal kit for it as it is leaking, perhaps taking it apart and putting it back together may cure it.

Hi Ian. I fitted both back and front struts to bonnet and boot from SGS, and they are excellent. I also have a 3 ton jack from them, and find that it is an excellent piece of work. With regards to the jack ‘dropping’ rather than letting it down, I have had no problems. Be gentle when letting the jack down and it is ok.

I just fitted bonnet struts from SGS Engineering. Their system didn't recognise the number on my existing struts because they were not the originals, but I phoned and a very helpful chap sorted out the right ones for me, around £38 the pair I think. There are cheaper ones on ebay but of unknown quality.

When I ordered my bonnet & boot struts from SGS, I just used the marque & model finder rather than measuring and all that. Both sets fitted a treat.

Obviously if you're an MG owner, like I am, don't be spooked by the lack of the MG logo on their site.

Because I have a rubber mat in the Tourer boot, I have fitted an uprated strut to hold the floor when open, also from SGS.

SGS also do a refill service on struts, whereby they refill with gas. I don’t know if they do ours, but you could always ask if wanted.

Funily enough I have just ordered a set of bonnet struts of DMGRS for £24.00 including postage which I think is a good deal and also I do prefer to support out traders when I can.

They probably should have been changed a year ago when the bonnet first landed on my head, but even so 16 years is not bad. I hope the new set lasts 10 years by which time I and the car will probably have bigger things to worry about

did the boot struts last week and its much better now well worth the effort. Wasnt until I read a thread on here over the christmas break that I understood I had a problem.
