Does that also mean that your fan has not been kicking in whilst stuck in traffic ? or maybe you dont have slow runs on your journies .. as the rad does get cooled at over 30 MPH . ...

Stuck in traffic, this is Lincolnshire dear man, we dont have traffic jams
I thought the air con was working on the way to Manchester but almost 3 weeks later and car having been parked up it seemed not to be working on the way home.

I have been in touch with Jules and he is still selling the Gold resistors. Hopefully next week I will have the time to get the front bumper off and check the silver resistor but may just replace it with a Gold one no matter what I find.

Than you for the advice

hope the brushes are still ok.as yours is the later type fitted with a resistor, you may be ok as the brushes last longer being used in tandem. i have the old 3 speed non resistor type and had to strip the motor and renew them all. one of the reasons i dont use the aircon as frequently as i used to. ...

Air con still not working, not getting cold after replacing the resistor.

Air con turned off so display is blank, engine ticking over and demist button pressed, fan is now running, still no cold air.

I read something about the air con compressor clutch on another thread some time ago but I cannot recall anything about it.

Should my next check be, is the system gassed/leaking or is there any other checks I should do first?

I really thought it was a resistor fault!

It was a resistor fault Ian but you appear to have something else wrong.

The easiest way of telling whether the system has sufficient refrigerant gas is to ask Mrs. Macafee to start the engine and press the windscreen demist button whilst you watch the compressor pulley closely. When the button is pressed you should hear a loud clunk and see the centre of the pulley begin rotating.

I don't need to say "let us know how you get on" because I know that you will!

Hi Ian

Sounds like you are out of gas in the system, If it was the resistor failed the air con would still work but the fan would just cycle the high speed fan on and off, I would suggest you get the car to a garage and get them to check and re gas the system if required and check for a leak which will most likely be from the condensor

If you are stuck let me know

Dave

As you know I'm not a diesel man but I do have a full colour illustration of your engine. I think some lying on the ground will be required. The compressor appears to be right at the bottom of the engine at the front of the engine bay, close to the windscreen washer reservoir.

If you don't fancy that then call out a mobile air con. specialist (don't take the car to a garage) who will be able to give you an informed diagnosis.

Can i say.... I fitted resistor. It cured it. Years latter i got a noisy AC pump. Took it to Jules in North Wales. He tested th hole system. Then serviced it with correct amount of oil and regas. Perfect and well worth th trip...
