I took a 2.7l Diesel for a test drive today. I think it an amazing drive so I'm sold on buying one. 3L diesel seems way to do. I'm as confused with the spec levels. I've no idea which is the top top diesel 3L.

There is Exec, Lux, Portfolio, Prem Lux, S LUX, S Portfolio, S premium Lux, SE, SPORT, sport le, TD TD V6 ..... on Auto Trader so I'm as confused as ****>

Please can anyone advise?

Hi Jim
Don't know if this will help but worth having a read through, i know some of the earlier Xf Jags have the same engine as the FL2, 2.2 diesel some of them came with swirl flaps, then i think after 2012 without swirls.

These swirls can break off in the manifold and damage the engine, so it's best to remove the manifold and fit a later one, or take out the swirl flaps of the manifold on the car you have, i don't know if the 2.7 - 3.0 XF have them ? good hunting.

I sold my zt 190 after 5 years and over 100k miles with it. Bought an xf 3l petrol premium luxury. I love it. I was planning to convert it to lpg, but since cv19 my mileage is so low it's hardly worth it. It does 30 mpg, which is better than my 190, and so no rush to convert it.
I'm sure the 3l diesel is a flying machine, but the number of duff engined ones is frightening....

Please can I ask if anyone sees a Jag XF 3L S Portfolio diesel with 85k or less miles please let me know. I'm hoping to spend £6.5 to £7k. I love the light blue, red, white ones. I think they stand out in certain colours especially with the light coloured leather interior. On autotrader there is one with 60k on the clock and it's £7k5 but it's already sold I'm afraid.
Cheers,
Jim

I put a deposit on one today. It's black with ivory leather seats. Portfolio S with 65k miles on the clock. This is a lot of car for the money. It was formerly owned by a Jag enthusiast so hope i'm in good hands. Thanks for all the advice. It really helped.

One thing I'd add is whatever your budget you will need money in reserve these cars do not come cheap for spares and maintenance.

Try and avoid the main stealers for maintenance and servicing if you can as they'll take your eyes out. Go to an independent instead. A basic service for my S-TYPE R cost me £135 with genuine parts and filters at the Jag specialist whereas Stratstone prices started from £325 for the same job. The same goes for any other marque, always go for a recommended independent if you can.
