What welding will need to be done

Hi looking for some advice, had the following reason for mot fail

Nearside Rear Suspension component mounting prescribed area excessively corroded significantly reducing structural strength inner and outer sill area (5.3.6 (a) (i))

Also for offside.

Guy who did the mot says he needs to.... in his words... ‘pull all the rear suspension off’ to make the welding repair. Is this the case and if so what issue might there be with putting it all back together.

I have got the new sills from Tom Hobbs, I guess there will be other fabrication required to make the repairs.

Can’t get the car high enough to look for myself, age and safety.

Would welcome any thoughts and advice. I just couldn’t scrap the car, it runs well and looks great from the top, was very good underneath when I got it 6 years ago. But then, so was I!!

Will a good repair last a few years?

I don't think you need any welding you just need new upper arms very common problem

It reads as both sills to me, no need to remove any of the suspension to repair.

Where does the suspension fix (the note mentions mounting prescribed area) the body of the car? I thought the failure reason suggested that this was at the inner sill? The sill around the rear jacking pad is certainly showing signs of tin worm.

The mot tester definitely said welding was required and had drawn a yellow line along the rear sill, shorter in length to Tom Hobbs replacement piece. No mention of upper arms. Perhaps I need a second opinion.

The trailing arm bolts to the floorpan rearwards of the sill, every sill repair I have seen is forward of this point, even if the trailing arm has to be dropped (Which I doubt) Its only three bolts, literally a five min job.

Would recommend having a full wheel alignment if the trailing arms are dropped to ensure the car handles properly and doesn't cause abnormal rear tyre wear.

Roy for sure get another opinion and make sure the welder is good, other wise a good part made by a craftsman will go to waste. worth having a look through these threads, and maybe show the photos to your would be welder, and ask would it be that sort of workmanship.
