Spam
anyone been hit with spam from one of the car forums??
I have only signed up and used this e-mail address with about 6 car sites, and nothing else, so I'm confident its linked to one of these... It Isn't porn for once LOL BUt a kind of investment advert thing. different everytime, buat as Its a new address and hardly used I'm pretty jacked off with it... Generally I dont suffer with spam at all normally anybody have any ideas which of the mg/rover/power carsites it might have originated from?? or how to get shot of this particular one?? its a bit more 'professional' (i use this grudgingly) than the normal ones so I asssume its a proper organisation that may be traceable?? any help greatfully recieved.. Hi Nick
I have not had anything unusual and like you don't normally get any spam at all. I can assure you and everyone else that email addresses that we receive do not leave here and we would never ever let them out to anyone else, you have our guarantee on that. All email addresses are held securely and nobody has access to them apart from us. Sorry you are having problems but again let me assure you its not coming from here. Regards Ken |

If you happened to post your email address on an open forum then it could easily have been harvested and used for SPAM bulk mailing. Once your address has been compromised then it will be passed around and around so you will get SPAM from many sources and of course the returned mail that appears to have emanated from your address. The only way to deal with it totally is to change address, SPAM filters are all very well but as the addresses change subtly and the content continually changes then it is virtually impossible to keep up.
If the SPAM is from a bona fide source you should be able to contact them and ask to be removed from their database. Do not do this by clicking links in email, that just confirms your existence and will result in more SPAM, if there is a web address navigate to it by typing in the URL to your browser and take it from there. To all members. Never post personal details in the open forum, do it by PM or by Email. I will delete personal info such as email addresses and telephone numbers as a matter of course. Hope this helps. |

I just took the opportunity to give reassurances that we would always keep email addresses safe thats all. I have been using the net for many years now and I can honestly say that I have had very little spam throughout that time, it probably comes to fewer than a dozen all told. Friends of mine get it everyday and I have no idea why. Cheers Nick  Ken |

Excellent advice there by Grey Ghost.
Another little tip, do a Google search for your email address, if there are ANY results, you're heading for an InBox full of spam. Also, if there are results, you know how you're getting spammed. Another little tip, register a cheap domain name (about £5 these days) and setup a "catch-all" on it. Then when registering with sites, use [email protected] so here for example, you'd register with [email protected] and if ever you get spammed, you know exactly whos door to start knocking on |
