I bought a little gadget on ebay that plugs into the socket to reset it

certainly worked on my '02 diesel...Just use the testbook or toaf now though.

These resetters simply use a timer to short Pin 8 to earth for the appropriate period. There's no OBD protocol involved, so whether it's diesel or petrol, whatever year, these gizmos will reset the service reminder.
