I like brogues. Oh boy do I like brogues.
Thanks for that, the skill is impressive and the materials second to none. Those shoes are considered expensive to ridiculous – but they are not. In fact I can honestly say, subject to the manufacturer, they are worth every penny and over a period of time surprisingly economical. We all have preferences and idiosyncrasies, many of them car related! However, sacrilege I know, there are other things in life. Shoes have been a fetish for me since youth, just before Teddy Boys and Beetle Crushers were all the go. Even back then, the family budget dictated that expenditure should not exceed income, and quality was often sacrificed in the name of economics. All shoes are predominantly hand made but what matters is the life of the shoe. I have shoes made by Grenson, Barker, and others (all made in UK incidentally) that initially cost a packet when bought over forty years ago and still in regular use. Such a wonderful place is Northampton! When the need for repair comes, usually through wear, mine get returned to the maker for a refurbish. The advantage of the ‘old’ shoes, retaining the years of taking the shape of the two feet that wore them and your own feet rarely being the same, still fit like gloves - so much more comfortable than unfamiliar shoes that need to be broken in. But they have to be Made in UK!
