Default Illumination feed solution for Ddin units...

I just thought I'd gather a few posts together to help with future installs..

Various issues seem to crop up with illumination when the car dimmer is lowered. Below is a comment Jeff (coolcat) made:

The LEDs run at around 2.7v much lower and they switch off.
The 12v illumination will have a regulator inside on the board which drops the voltage from 12v down to the led required voltage.
Chances are that regulator is very sensitive to voltage drop and cuts off if there isn't sufficient current to drive it!

So... thought I'd try to find a feed from back of LSM which would provide a constant 12V feed when lights are turned on.

If you want to see what some of us have done (which works really well...) see thread:

"MG R NAVALL 1 Android Head Units Experiences, Questions concerns"
post number #482

Well I've managed to include that post below:

Another thing ... Ive got lighting sorted. As I said in a previous post I spliced into wire 44 of plug at back of LSM (red/orange colour) this bypasses the dimmer ( which by the way was about 2-3V). H/U noticably dims when I turn lights on which is what I was after... Good result... could have used the passenger sidelight wire (red/black - wire 45...) if it went past back of H/U... didnt bother as Id already run a wire to the LSM...)
Can explain more if anyone is interested in doing this.. .

Picture of connector, wiring diagram & colour codes in next post...

Hope this helps - it is worth doing in my opinion if you own one of the new DD units...

Pictures for the above attached...

Just to add, could a mod make this a sticky in the double din section as it is relevant to all of the double din head units with led backlighting
Well done John for finding your original posts and findings.

Just thought I'd let you guys know.

The Navall3 that is just launching works seamlessly on the dashboard illumination dimmer without the need for modification
