Default Zt-t cdti 2003 white smoke when revved

Hi guys, hope you can point me in the right direction here.
I've just bought a 53 plate zt-t+cdti 93000 miles and now discovered that if I rev the engine while stationary I get a fair bit of whiteish/greyish smoke from the exhaust. Seems ok while driving. I tried to get a good sniff of the smoke and it smelled mainly of diesel/exhaust fumes. Definitely no oily smell to it.
Any suggestions?

i would check injectors incase 1 is over fueling but white smoke can also be caused my lack of pressure from the turbo so check things like o rings and turbo hoses for splits

You could try running the engine with the MAF unplugged and see if things improve.

i may be wrong but white smoke is normally a sign of a bunged up egr valve clean it out with carb cleaner.do the pcv filter while you are at it.clouds of black smoke normally points to over fueling esp under acceleration ie overtaking etc.anyway doing both of the above will do no harm

remove each 1 individually and see if there all running the same, if one is running irratic then that could possibly be the problem,
but like has been said i would try, cleaning the egr, i cleaned myn and blocked it off, i took the inlet off and cleaned that, put new o rings in, and few other little bits, ive removed my pcv filter aswell

You can discount the turbo, it doesn't kick in until >1,800 RPM. Could be injector(s), worth trying some injector cleaner. Also check/ clean/ replace the PCV.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Thanks everyone, i did clean my PCV yesterday but will get a new filter asap. I have removed and plugged the vacuum pipe for my EGR but I haven't cleaned it out yet. I'll give that a go next.
No smoke when on boost while driving so I'm hopeful it has nothing to do with the turbo
Waiting for some Viton Orings from jules, had to fit some I had at work because the ones on it were completely recked. I'll check all my hose connections when i change the O rings.

More updates to follow

Thanks
Andy

This white/grey smoke only occurs when parked, out of gear & revving the engine correct?

If that is the case, it couldn't just be condensation in the exhaust system could it? Or does it occur on a warmed-up engine as well?

In the either case, the first thing I would be doing is to remove the airfilter and see if the problem is still there. It could be over fuelling caused by a bad filter.
