Hi everybody

Any recommendations for having my aircon regassed in Staffordshire either mobile or garage.
Just not had one done before and understand loads of cowboys about.

I've had mine regassed at a national chain (just can't remember which one) and regassed it myself with a kit - no difference apart from the price. Really easy to fill too. I read a bunch of horrified posts on here but gave it a go and never looked back!

The best answer here, and always will be, get a mobile specialist to check for leaks and advice.

Topping it up your self wont find where the gas has gone, if there are no leaks your system should never in theory need topping up.

A few years ago it was common practice because the gas was cheap just to put some in every year when the weather warmed up. Now we are caring about the environment and the cost of the has tripled you need to get a specialist to do the job.

Also putting gas in with out vacuuming the system first can leave moisture in there and if that freezes can cause havoc with the compressor.

I have no advice of who too use but I will tell you to avoid the chains who just plug a machine in to your car like Halfrauds, often do more damage than good and if they do muck up the system they will say it was cars fault. A mate had his Subaru topped up at the local Halfrauds, he was told the system was faulty so he needed to take it to a specialist, the specialist found they had completely filled the system so there was no room for expansion, he did not get charged by the specialist as the gas recovered more than paid the bill.

Most small garages dont do A/C them selves because of the cost so find out who they use would be my advice.

I got a mobile A/C engineer to do mine, but then I wanted to change the condenser on mine so it made more sense particularly when putting it all back together I could get it all tested to make sure it was working properly before I rebuilt the front end of the car.
