TR75.... good effort, but no prize im afraid .

The R100 ( not R75) made history in the summertime 3 years (to the day minus one) after my birthday.

Maybe you should have read further into the article you found ...... and a prayer to Saint Hubert would have helped .

I think this thread will never reveal the oldest member.
A) he cant remember his age anyway

B) he cant read the screen

C) hes in the car wondering how he got there and cant set the satnav

D) hes wondering what all the switches are for and forgotten how to start it .

E) hes trying to work out the R100 clue I gave earlier.

etc etc...

My dad stopped driving his Tourer a few months ago when he had a stroke straight after breaking his hip. At that time he was 83.

My sister in law now has the car although my dad still considers it "his".

I'm leaning towards it being compulsory (whenever a licence is renewed (over 70)) but free and treated as a road safety measure for the benefit of the older driver as much as anyone else. But nothing as bad as an actual driving test. I'd suggest an eyesight test (as per the driving test standard) and a drive round (maybe for 30 minutes) with an accredited driving assessor, who then has the ability (and power) to say, "crack on Sir Stirling", or "give me that licence you doddery old ***, I wouldn't trust you with a bus pass" (humour before anyone comes over all offended)

I don't, unlike some, see any reason to stop a fit & healthy person from driving no matter how old they are and as I say, I hope I'm still driving well into my older years, but we have to admit that as we get old(er) reaction times can get longer, eyesight (even when corrected) can get poorer, and even getting in and out of the car can be a bit of a challenge for some.
looking at the dreadful standards of driving on the roads nowadays, I strongly believe *everyone* should be re tested every 10 years. I also belive that this should be at no cost to the driver as it should be a road safety initiative.

Sorry to hijack the thread (just had some *&^/#$ pull out of a quiet side road into another quiet road in front of me without looking and then stop ACROSS THE ROAD to look at his phone, then seem surprised to see the front end of my hi-roof transit inches away from his drivers door putting a long long blast of my (really very loud) horns straight in his ear hole.
he then sped off the wrong way up a slip road onto the nearby dual carriageway. as I drove off, I saw that he was stopped and trying to reverse back down).

Without wishing to pour scorn on your idea, how would decennial road tests stop twerps such as the one you describe from behaving like that once they've passed their latest test???

well, the hope is that with this level of bad driving he *wouldnt* pass another test. At least not without a lot of retraining which may rub off on him.

I also believe that there should be a maximum number of times people can sit a driving test. if you cant pass after 5 attempts (as an example) then you shouldn't be on the road!
