Thermostat
Hello from the Antipodes
Has any one done a "how to" on replacing the dreaded thermostat on the V6 engine. The Haynes manual description sounds very simplistic. Artic has done an excellent report on using the keyhole method, at this stage I would prefer to use the Haynes system. How long does an experienced garage take to do the job in the UK? |

Noooo, don't use the Haynes method, keyhole surgery is the way to go, no fuel rails to mess about with, no inlet gaskets to replace.

In terms of a how-to , probably the best I have seen for this is by Jim Mcglyn.......

Hi.
Well after the original and two duff new thermostats I'd only ever go the keyhole way, last time it took me 40 minutes excluding filling the system.

The (Artic) keyhole method is by far the simplest, very straightforward and less hassle.
I was quoted £250 by a UK garage using the other method, 3 hours work. |

Thanks for all the useful information. Will use Artic's keyhole method. I guess I should also replace the radiator to thermostat hose at the same time.
