Well, Terry kindly had another look at my 2.5 V6 today after drinking 500ml in as many miles. This time he took the undertray off and looked from underneath. Here is what we found:

And with the top cover removed looking down, we checked the V if the engine (clear) and spotted fresh coolant dripping onto the thing at the bottom, as well as a little puddle on the undertray cover.

So it looks like the water pump is caput. Given that the cambelt was due for its six yearly change this coming winter in any event, I've just ended up bringing forward the cambelt and water pump change by a few months. As Terry is retiring shortly he won't be doing the water pump so I'll be travelling further afield to get it done properly.

Garage fitted Newer Silver resistor Fan unit last Friday, tested it and surprise surprise fan didn't kick in.

Garage were going to wire it so it came on permanent until I said wait test the resistor for open circuit and hey presto it was open circuit. They have temporarily bypassed the resistor, and I have ordered one from Jules so will have a bash at fitting that once it arrives.

New post gonna start for next issue..lol

Default IPK temperature

Someone referred to checking the water temperature using the IPK display. How does that work?

Amazing, I have had the car for 9 years and never knew about this feature. There is nothing in the owners handbook. You live and learn every day!
We are coming over to the UK in August, would be great to catch up with some fellow 75 owners.
Thanks Simon.

Can explain what these copper flakes are floating in the coolant? I must have missed something in the thread?

If it was my car, I would start at the beginning by draining it completely. When the coolant comes out, look for any fine copper coloured flakes floating in it.

Sounds like a temporary gasket sealer has been added to the coolant, horrible stuff, flush it out as soon as possible, it tends to clog up the heater matrix.

Will be done first thing tomorrow! Think I have a water leak though, probably the reason the sealer was introduced! Keep having to top it up. No sigh of HGF though, oil looks clear and no sludge/ emulsified oil in the coolant.
Thanks

I have seen a lot of this type of 'fix' most cases they suspect HGF so in goes the sealer, in reality its usually the inlet manifold gasket or the water pump!
