Question Real wood v plastic

I have just learned that some models had a "real" wood dash as opposed to plastic. Can someone enlighten me? I have a 1999 V6 Connoisseur (Vin 111386) and a 2006 75-T V6 Connoisseur (Vin 334082), both have plastic dashes. Was the real wood an optional extra?
On another matter I am unable to post on the "how to" forum, why?

Your 99 V6 should be real ... thread below will tell you the differences due to project drive to your later car...

I think the easy way to tell is the word "Airbag" on the very left hand side that is fitted over the passenger air bag. If flush, its wood, if recessed its genuine plastic.

My 99 V reg is flush but my brother in law (cabinet maker) is convinced the dash is plastic!

I'm a bench joiner & I can say the flush one IS wood, albeit a thin veneer with a lot of very hard lacquer over it. Took me 2 weeks of an hour+ every night to sand it off (nitromors wouldn't touch it !) Then frenched polished it as I wanted a proper wood look.

Regards

Paul

I found the same thing when refurbishing a walnut gear knob. Left it soaking overnight in Nitromors and it didn't do a thing. Had to physically sand it in the end.

Yes, I've got some pictures & of the Handbrake Sleeve & "eyebrow" I made from solid pieces of walnut & did the same with.

Have been trying to add them but am having some difficulties. Leave it with me

Default Real wood dash

I have had a set of fascias which fit the definition of real wood with the flush airbag. Did not fit them because the plastic version has a better grain, perhaps it is the hard varnish that spoils the real one?

Yes, however Ken, the real wood version doesn't rattle, and the face level vents fit properly

All of my fleet, including the ZT have real wood fitted
