Default Help !! - window washers - Failed MoT

hi guys
my dads 75 failed its mot because the window washers arent working iv checked everything out and there is no live going to the pump all fuses are ok.

Is there a common fault that causes this?
can i run a live to the pump or will this cause problems elsewhere?

thanks

I presume that someone was actually activating the washer switch whilst you were testing the circuit? Sorry got to ask......

Default window washers failed mot.

Recently had a windscreen washer problem. No water jet but pump was operating. No blockage found with the jet outlets when they were dismantled so concentrated on the tank.
Accessed via the forward right hand wheel well behind the wheel arch liner.
Easier to remove the wheel, tie back the forward wheel liner to access the tank. Pump is easily within reach.
I found that the small filter at the base of the pump was completely blocked with a paint like mould.
Reach the filter by disconnecting the pump wiring, raise the pump from its slide on distributing pipe and prise up the rubber like filter plug.

I had this problem over xmas, mine was the live wire had been worn through! This was because the wire was touching the wheel liner,it was about 4in above the bottle.
