There have been a few cars Tony which, inexplicably, have their resistor tucked away out of sight behind the fan shrouding. Before you start spending money I'd recommend a bit of investigative dismantling.

You see, on a three speed system the air conditioning uses only the low and medium speeds. These share an earth brush so that is the one which reaches its minimum length first. When this happens, you lose all fan assistance. It cannot pulse on and off every twenty seconds unless the low speed supply brush has failed before the earth. That is possible, but would be extremely unusual.

If you can find a way of counting how many wires enter the motor housing, the 3 speed has four and the 2 speed with resistor only two.

Could it be a possibility that your car has a non-MGR fan system already?

Simon

I will have a good look asap. Thanks for the info regarding number of wires.
