I took a bloke to task once because he was telling everyone that his Discovery's Td5 engine was a BMW unit and that Land Rover "couldn't make a decent Diesel engine".

Oh dear...............

Cool

When I owned the diesel ZT, Redfive, it died a death. So phoned the RAC, when the patrolman turned up his words to me was, "it will either be HGF or the clutch, oh! It's a diesel. It must something silly then as these Rover diesels are very reliable."

I pointed it out that it was a BMW lump and his reply was, "but it is built under licence from Rover."

The air filter box had come off. Once fixed I was on my way.

That's a great story Bob. No prejudice there then.

Am I right in saying that it's the same engine that BMW used but they don't actually make it.

This might be another "some Bloke down the pub" fact but I've heard it's made by Steyr and sold to BMW.

Kinda ...... the engine is slightly different to that used in BMW cars. (the one used in BMWs, initially had more issues. The Rover version I believe was essentially a test exercise for BMW, with the R in M47R standing for common Rail, which BMW didnt use at that point. (well that is what I understand from what I have read lol)
