Default Expansion tank

I wonder why MGR ditched this prototype expansion tank, it would have saved a whole load of grief, what with a proper cap, and see through to make checking the level much easier

I think the answer is in the question.

Make it easy to use , maintain or replace? Don't be daft. This is the motor industry we're talking about.

Going by the cap design it seems to be similar to the 25/45 models which all came with see through tanks too. Perhaps the scope for supply was tendered and the cheapest supplier won to supply the tanks we all know today simply on the price or capacity of the supplier.

The see through tank would have no doubt been an aid when carrying out regular checks ups on your car, however you cant see the level while driving. The low coolant warning light should have been mandatory
