Default 75 CDT Tourer 03 ....Tailgate stuck...

Not my car but trying to help a friend out. (currently no PC or he would be here in person)

He has owned the car for about 6 weeks now and he cannot open the tailgate.

I got him to try a battery dissconnect and unfortunately...... no joy.

He has dismantled the bits that he can get to from inside and outside....also no joy

He has checked the switch and that seems to be functioning okay.

He did say, he thought he might have no supply to the switch, although fuse looks okay.

Anyone experienced a stuck tailgate?

How can he open the darn thing, manually or otherwise?

All constuctive thoughts appreciated.

The tailgate itself should have a manual release toggle accessible from the safety triangle stowage area. Should be easy to reach if the window opens, otherwise it means crawling in from the passenger area.

Stuck tailgate was an adjustment problem on some of the early facelift versions....as above open the warning triangle cover, prise out the little rectangular cut out and give it a tug.

Once the tailgate is open you need to adjust and lubricate the striker plate mechanism...

I had this fault on my previous company car on an 04 plate.

sorted it in ten minutes.

I have just texted my mate to ask about the glass part of the tailgate, whether it opens or not.

As he is currently at work he will take a look tomorrow and let me know. (strange I thought....I get the feeling he didn't know it opened ........but I might be wrong)

So if the glass does open, it looks like we are in with a chance of opening the tailgate. Am I correct?

I have a question myself....does the glass portion open manually or is this part also electrical????

Thanks for the input so far guys.

Yes...window opener is a little contact switch on the rear wiper pivot. just feel under the flat part and squeeze the rubber covered switch. even if that doesnt open you can reach through into the boot from inside the car to open the warning triangle cover....the little rectangular plug inside that cover needs to be prised out with your finger nail or screwdriver....then there is a cord attached which you pull...and hey presto....

I did post up a Short while ago about Tailgate release Mechanisms and locations.

The Tailgate Glass Mech, Locks when you have Tailgate locked And opens when Tailgate opens from Keyfob. Both can be open at same Time but watch if you then lift tailgate as it often Hits Garage roof.

It's electrical. With the window open, I can hear the tailgate release mechanism clicking as I press and release the button.

This member has been able to gain access to the mechanism without opening the window: http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...2&postcount=17

JDC's post with part numbers is at the end of that thread.
