I think that the Ely will make a smashing venue for meets don't for get it was still Christmas week and I think that the staff done very well seeing the amount of guest that were there and I would imagine the chef was under a lot of pressure with the difference meals he was dishing up

no to be honest it is a good venue and I think it should be made our local

I agree I think it's just a busy week. I think we should give it another chance

Just to let you know that I was actually there, but from about 10 - 11am. to meet KWIL as we had some business but I couldn't stay as some unforeseen circumstances arose and had to get back.

Not only that I couldn't bring the Rover as it is currently SORN until February. Pointless taxing it when I really don't use it in inclement weather - and we've been having a bit....lol. (Have to say the Cover has stood up well)!

But from what I saw it did look nice with quite a bit of parking.

Also, you have to take into consideration it is a Hotel also, so priorities will always be split between the two, with priority generally going to staying guests.

As far as the complaints about service, I have nearly always encountered this, bad or slow service, when anywhere is busy. This is because businesses tend to have minimum staff requirements to save money, which is OK under normal circumstances, but all of a sudden you get 20 -30 people pitch up all at once, on top of your normal patrons and bang! All hell breaks loose. And you can't blame the staff - they're usually doing the best they can on a (minimal) minimum wage..... And they're the ones that get the abuse and blame, unfairly I might add!

If you have one later in the Spring - I'll be there!!

I agree with the members that we should try the Ely again when it is less busy and see if the service times inprove, but I still say we should sample other venues both in case the Ely doesnt come up to standard and to have alternate meeting points, personally I like a bit of variety but of course Im a furriner LOL

By all means Look for alternative venues there are a few in the pipeline but I think that the Ely will serve as our HQ so to speak just as the frog did in the past we still have the one at leatherhead on the cards and there is always Pete's at Milton Keynes

The Ely would be good for me as I'm only a couple of miles away should you decide to hold another meet there.
