Abs sensor failure, grease on the end of the sensor?
I have a gut feeling what the answer is going to be but worth asking as always.
Sudden Speedo failure yesterday drivers side front and sensor failed. Abs light on solid at ignition. (Wheel bearing and sensor changed approx 6 months ago) so was a little annoying when that yellow little light came on again. Anyway, new sensor changed over today, as I pulled out the old "dud" sensor, there was a bit of grease on the very end of it. No CV grease. I suspect some of the grease from the bearing has come out. I can't feel any play in the wheel bearing with the wheel on jacked up, has anyone else experienced this? Not sure if it's just the new bearing bedding in and excess grease may have just oozed out after a few miles when the grease has become warm? The grease isn't oozing out to the point of where the end of the CV joint goes into back side of the hub etc. Should I budget for a new bearing in the near future? Thanks Rob |

Grease shouldn't ooze out of a bearing Rob, the seals should contain it, but if the bearing was overpacked with grease then it could be forced out as the bearing heats up.
Maybe see how it goes as you might be lucky and everything settles down. |

Thanks Mike,
I'm going to keep an eye on it, I've had the sensor out that many times on the hub carrier, it's easy to simply pull and twist and wiggle the sensor out in a few seconds so I can see if the sensor is again covered in grease again. In comparison to all the other bearing I'd had issues with, the current fitted bearing was heavily packed with grease, evident prior to fitting. There's no play evident so I'll keep on it. I aren't going down the motorway or driving hard etc mainly local roads of short distance. |

Hello Rob,
Was this one of ours? I've not seen this before, but if it is drop me a message to [email protected] and we'll sort out a new sensor for you. We sell around 15-20 sensors per week with no failures on record this year - so it'd be mighty unlucky if this is the case!
