Whining noise?
Rises and lowers with engine revs. Seems to be coming from belt end
Any ideas please? Oh, got it back from paint, looks a lot better |

Alternator, belt tensioner, water pump, idler pulley. Or just belt past it?
Power steering pump (check fluid level). Aircon. Don't rule out it picking something up thats rubbing on a belt/belts somewhere.

Belt tensioner I’d say.

More than likely, as others have said, one of the belts or pulleys.--My air-con belt was starting to crack in lots of places so I fitted a new one.--This new belt, when I switch on the air-con, happily whines away all by itself. As the belt was new I guess what I can hear is wear on the pulley.----

Thanks all for suggestions Took it to a mate of mine who is THE Rover expert round here, and let him have a listen. We both agreed it's from the water pump area, but not as bad as I thought, me being paranoid about any noises etc So, until it gets really bad, It'll do for now
Thanks again everyone |
