Default Wheel centre questions

Hi guys

I've picked up my set of straights from stocktake today. Dave gave me two sets of centre caps. 1 plastic, one metal. The inner badge on them has delaminated, as they do with age.

I have been experimenting and stripped the rubbish coating off one of the plastic ones successfully and cleaned it up, as you can see from the pic, it looks a lot better, however - my first question is, how do I now prep this before applying a new coat of lacquer?

Second question, I am not sure I can fix some of the metal centre badges, but obviously the metal ones are superior to the plastic. Does anyone make these badges for straight centres anywhere?

Thankies

Dawn

Wow I like those! I've dealt with Darren before but I thought he'd merged into another company and lost his address! What did you have to do to fit them? Did you remove any of the old or just stick it over? Thank you for replying.

Great result! Not sure of the best coating to protect them though.
I have used spray bombs of epoxy clearcoat with good results but don't know the badges would react to it.
I have the same issue with the badges on my metal centers.
I have a set of new plastic centers and have been wondering if it is possible to swap the badges over after refinishing the metal centers.

The badge on my steering wheel is also a bit of a mess. Do you think it would clean up like the wheel badges?

I don't know. The lacquer on the wheel caps was very brittles and I flaked it off with a modelling knife, then cleaned the residue with T-cut.

I've tried to send Darren an e-mail but I was right, he posted ages ago on facebook he was merging with another company, so I am not sure his contact info will be the same. When did you last use his services?

Hi Dawn. I used Halfrauds acrylic lacquer on mine, but they are plastic, so I don’t know if that would be ok on metal?

I think you find Darren does not do any car stuff any more due to taking over another business and a change of direction. Whether this will change in the future. ...pass. there are some other peeps doing similar though.
