Default Oh No! Clutch Noise

Today when I got home from a long, hot, stop and go commute
I found a new noise. When the clutch pedal is depressed I get a
TICK, TICK, TICK, quite loud.
I've never heard this on a car I have owned before.
I will see if it's still there tomorrow morning when it's nice and cool

Hydraulics are working fine, as a matter of fact there is no issue other than the noise.
Throwout bearing on the way out maybe?
If so, do they take a while to expire or can I expect a sudden catastrophic failure?

Not saying it is, but these spring to mind..

1. Clutch release bearing
2. Thrust bearing
3. Broken loose spring on clutch pressure plate

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

A throwout bearing that's on its way out can make it gradually harder to change gears until it's degraded to the point where you can't shift anymore at all.

However, it can also start making noise without affecting gear changing and just falls apart all of a sudden when it suits least. Then you're stranded.

Rats! That's pretty much what I thought.
I'll order the parts today. Hopefully it will hold
together till they arrive.

Here's a question...I have an MGF clutch alignment tool
Does anyone know if this will also work on my ZT190?
If not, any idea where I might get one?
Also, any source for the hydraulic line release tool, or is it
really as simple as the one shown in T-cut 's how-to?

Well, This morning's 05:30 run to work was much cooler and there was no evidence of the ticking noise until I reached the lot at work, and it was much quieter. The run home was hotter, but about 3C cooler than yesterday, and when I got home there was no ticking when the clutch was depressed, but a Whirrr with the foot off the pedal. Seems I will be doing the clutch. I just hope it holds together until mid-September when I have booked a week off to do the timing belts.
One thing I want to know is how Rimmers knew this was coming? Just the other day they sent me an e-mail offering 20% off an order over 250 quid.
Seems I will be taking them up on their offer!

Just a question....
I've been giving this task a lot of thought and considering the amount of
heavy work involved I am going to talk to a trusted local transmission shop about doing the job for me.
As they will never have seen a ZT before (mine is the only ZT for 1000 miles) I want to give them an idea what they will be dealing with so they can give me a proper estimate and so they have an idea what to expect in terms of work.
So, my question is, What is a similar car with a similar layout that they may have dealt with before? Is there a Volvo, or Honda or whatever that is put together similarly?
Any tips appreciated!

you could show them the several "How To's" on this site which would give them a good idea.

Having said that Most front-wheel-drive cars have the same layout so I would imagine the procedure will be the same or as near as dam it.

That's my thinking, I just want them to be assured that my oddball car won't be tying up their shop for longer than necessary.
Most mechanics can't be bothered watching videos as they already know it all (Whether they do or not!) so how-to's won't be a factor.
This shop has done auto gearbox work for me before, do great work and are very honest which is unusual for transmission shops in Canada.
I am ordering all the necessary parts and have the shop manuals if they need them for torques etc.
Just hoping that they can do it quickly and efficiently so that the bill doesn't hurt too badly.

and give them a Haynes manual, it is very helpful when it comes to clutch work

MacAfee, I have a Haynes and it and the factory manual will be in the car in case they find the need.
