Default How much should it cost?

I'm fed up paying for work to be done on my 1.8T and wondered how much it would cost just to have an engine transplant. Does anyone have recent experience of this?

Alternatively I might just give up and buy a nice 2.5 V6 instead ...

I have to say I never quite get the logic of this, if you've already spent £X amount on sorting various things with your engine, why swap it for an engine that may well been not far off soon having all the problems your old engine had. Unless it's a case of your engine isn't repairable, I think it's best to stick with 1 you know the history of.

Appreciate your post but having done all the work as per my sig. it now looks as if I've got a cracked block and it's developed a misfire:-(

Usually I'd agree with you, preferring to know all the history, but I haven't had much luck with the car since I picked it up last year and it has got to the point of not wanting to throw good money after bad. Just wondered, therefore, whether a transplant might be cost effective.
