V8 front end and 4x4
How radically reengineered is the V8 front end re engine mountings etc
Could it be re adapted to take the KV6 without too much grief and could that KV6 come from a freelander to create something with 4wd? btw if the freelander still a transverse lump just thinking aloud |

theres a thread on the 260's about a 4wd zt, and i believe it used the freelander KV6 and the rear of the 260. there was a prototype around some where

Yes read that originally just looking at it from the perspective of the v8 chasis is sort of ready made if the FWD setup can go back in
One issue still becomes a problem, that of marrying up the electronics |

The forum you mentioned is closed to non-V8 owners. So it's an interesting bit of info but we can't see it. |

taken from the two sixites forum a little bit of info on the 4wd ZT
Yes there is a 4wd ZT, I saw it a few weeks ago. It is a very logical development route in that it is essentially the RWD back end married to the FWD ZT 2.5 KV6 using the PG1 gearbox from the Freelander as it has the bolt on power take off for drive to the rear axle. In 1997 when I was running the Maestro Turbo with a solid 240bhp T16 I looked at creating a 4WD version using the then new Freelander transmission and a Golf Synchro rear suspension. Remember Golf and Maestro almost saw a Court case over apparent copying of the Golf designs in some areas, plus early versions used a Golf gearbox. The point was to enable me to push towards 300bhp as 240bhp was fine at outdragging Scoobies in the dry, in the damp or wet it was difficult to get enough traction to accelerate faster than a Cavalier 1.8! So without traction it would have been poiuntless, although a pal has a 270 bhp T16 with 291 lbs ft of torque and so with just over a tonne to haul around in the dry it is stupendous, but confirms the need for 4wd in any damp or wet conditions, although power delivery is completely progressive and easily controlled. Makes the 260 seem quite sluggish. Digressing as usual...

Don't suppose there's any way of matching the V8 to a fwd chassis to get a 4Wd V8? (Don't want an Audi RS4!)
or, how would you modify the KV6 to get your 300bhp... Btw, still wondering about chances of retrofitting traction control.. MG ZTT190 w/lpg |

Traction control is for girls!!!!! You don't need it, your right foot and brain is all the traction control you need!

Absolutely agree!
Every car I have ever had with TC fitted has been a pain or a dissapointment. Only once when driving my 190 have I thought "I wonder what TC would have done" and that was when I was driving down the motorway with Cruise engaged and I hit a big puddle which caused a fair degree of wheel spin as the car slowed and cruise tried to compensate! And I only wondered that because I assume TC would overide and disengage Cruise? |

TC Would help get me off the line better, I either spin the wheels or get lousy acceleration. I notice it most when pulling out of the drive and trying to put the power down. It would also (potentially) allow fitment of ESP, which would help my sense of safety when my dad's driving...
