Thanks for all your responses, I've decided I'm going to be brave and try to do it myself. I've now got all the parts on order and hopefully they'll be with me by the end of the week - hopefully you won't get posts from me later panicking when the cars in the air and I can't figure out what to do!

And, if you get really stuck, my local independent will accept a car in carrier bags.

I dunno if I could afford enough carrier bags for that, I'd probably need to spend at least 80p on bags for a car this size!
Thanks guys, I'll let you know how it goes. |

Following on from this, I'm hoping my fuel pump will show up tomorrow, I was going to get the Mkon one but he's currently out of stock so got one off eBay which I'm hopefully is exactly the same item;

Little bit later than expected but I got the fuel pump done today. My god what an hassle that was - could not for the life of me get the fuel pipe off of the blown motor. Tried for ages, warmed it and tried to prize it off with a screwdriver, tried using brute force but no good. In the end I had to cut the little bit bit off the motor with the hose attached, then crush the little plastic bit and pull it out piece by piece with needle pliers! Got there in the end though and didn't lose any bits of plastic down the fuel pipe. Now have a nice healthy motor than actually works. I've also now got a spare UBP as I'm sure the current one has been overworked doing the job of 2 pumps but that's for another day as I've had enough of pumps for today!
Also arranged with a mate to do the bush at his after Christmas as he has better tools than me and actually knows what he's doing mechanically. |
