Default Not firing up

Hi all
Need a little advise……

I have a 2.0 kv6 and last week I noticed the temp gauge went into the red…. Stopped the car and let her cool down whilst on the drive…..
Today I’ve replaced the heater matrix and for some reason she won’t fire up now…… turns over but won’t fire

I’m guessing the ecu is stopping her from starting due to last weeks over heat issue??? Like I say, I’m guessing

Is there anyone near Tamworth with a code reader that could help ??

Or any advise as to where to start

Many thanks
Steve

Only me again

Been out to the car again and I can see the rev counter flickering slightly so I’m guessing the crank sensor will be ok

I did notice the temp gauge was messing around…. Engine stone cold but when I was turn her over, it rose to around a quarter on the gauge….

Would I poorly temp sensor cause her not to start ????

Hello Steve,

Can you be absolutely certain that the engine was stone cold? What length of time elapsed after the car last reached normal temperature?

Why did you replace the heater matrix? Was that unconnected with the overheating?

Have you investigated why the temperature gauge rose to the red section? Was the radiator fan running at high speed? Is the coolant level low?

Simon

Hi Simon
The reason for changing the matrix was covert little warm air coming through the passenger vents……

So I came home with the car driving normal, pulled up outside my house and heard the fan on… hhmmm, then looked at the temp gauge and it was fully on the red marker…. I popped the bonnet and all looked fine, coolant hoses were normal to touch (as expected) and nothing nasty from the expansion bottle….. I was even able to remove the cap without any issues

So I drove the car down onto my drive and left it there…..I left the car for over 24 hrs and went to start her and that’s when I noticed she wouldn’t start….. left her again as had plans and again tried tonight….. checked the rev counter was flickering to which it was slightly, but the temp sensor rose as soon as I turned the ignition, but like I say the engine was stone cold

I hope all of that makes sense.

Cheers
Steve

Thanks Steve.

As you mused earlier, it's looking like a fault in the coolant temperature sensor circuit. This, along with other things, is used by the Engine Control Module for fuelling. If the ECM thinks that the engine is overheating, it probably won't trigger the longer injector period necessary for a cold start.

Good morning
Well I’ve just come out and she fired up first time like normal…….. what is she like. !!!

Looking at the temp gauge it was reading cold when I put the key in the ignition and has rose steadily as the engine has warmed up….. maintaining at 9 o’clock position….

Gut feeling, temp sensor needed

Or wiring damage leading to it causing a short circuit.
