Default sluggish 1.8t

Hi -for the last 2 weeks my car has been sluggish mainly at low revs -

OBD -shows no faults or misfires
No dark smoke
No turbo whine

So am i looking at the possible failure of the pierburg boost valve ?

Strangely enough the car engine sound has got much throatier and sounds similar to when my exhaust manifold gasket failed - i notice on Rimmers site there is turbo/exhaust gasket - if this is failing would it cause the turbo to under perform - and of course cause the throatier sound?

doesn't sound like a failing Boost Control - when this Fails the Car will NOT be "Sluggish" - more "Hyperactive", until fuel shut off


an Exhaust leak should be easy enough to diagnose - may be worth checking all the Service parts, Air Filter condition, plugs, Oil, leads etc.? - I've been looking at changing the Leads on my Car for Magnecore (?) if i recall the brand - I've heard of these being an improvement for a K-Series - I'm interested to try these with Standard Plug Gap(1.0mm) and see how they fare

What do you have the Spark Plug Gap set at ? - I'm sure I'm at 0.60mm


Id be inclined to throw a shot Redex in the Fuel for Good Measure regardless

Hi -plugs are at 1.00mm and to be fair in my 6 years of ownership its not been an issue. Service due next month - and i run her on Forte as opposed to redex. I am leaning more toward the exhaust gasket on the turbo failing - the engine sounds like i am driving a V8 -which was the same when the exhaust manifold gasket went - looking on the net the turbo gasket does wear out.

Sounds a Good call - Exhaust leak affecting the oxygen sensor readings at low RPM then becoming insignificant as Engine speed and Boost Increase ? i'd assume this could cause an AFR fueling issue ? - (if so would it run lean or rich?)

will advise when new gasket fitted if that has solved the issue.
