Scanning 35mm Transparencies
Need some advice please guys.I have to admit to being a bit of a ludite still in the film world, though I do take digital photos I still like my 35mm.Now I have sent quite a few slides to a high street Fugi printer, to be printed, yet they allways look flat and the sharpness dulled right down, would I get better results using a 35mm scanner.Does anybody still do Cibachrome? as I believe these were the best way to get prints from 35mm slides??Any ideas, even seems to be a problem getting slides developed nowadays.Thanks,Pete.

I got an Epson V200 photo scanner that does negatives and slides and they have come out pretty good! I've scanned negatives from the 50s I bought from a carboot and they are really good!! I tried a few slides as well and they came out superb aswell. The scanner was only £60
Example That was from a negative taken in 1954 Last edited by The_Monk; 31st January 2008 at 20:51.. |

I have not had any Problems using a Minolta Slide Copier/Scanner
Trouble is now with High Street Processors are they are Not Photographic Technicians just Automated Robots and Don't even know if something Needs Darkened/Lightened or the Magenta or Cyan Altered, most are just School Girls with a Days Training if they are Lucky. All geared for Digital now you see. You do get what you Pay for I'm afraid, and by sending them to a Professional Lab you would get Excellent results but at a Cost. |

Modern print/transparency scanners are very good, though I don't have one particular model to recommend.
If you would rather have someone else do the scanning/printing for you, I can heartily recommend Peak Imaging: http://www.peak-imaging.com/htmls/title.htm I used them for all my transparency processing (including prints) before I went digital, and still use them for prints from digital files. Very good quality and service
