S-L-O-W Puncture x 3

I have THREE slow punctures on my ZR! Losing between 1-2 PSI each daily

The tyres are quite new, so reluctant to replace them.

Options:

1. Live with it & keep inflating them every couple of days.
2. Go to local tyre place & let then have a look, but as it's a slow puncture, bet they don't find the cause.
3. Squirt half a can of tyre puncture goo into each one & hope that seals them.

Thoughts?

Hi Tatts.

I wouldn't use goo. May seal the leak but will probably put your wheels out of balance. Really only a ' get you home ' fix IMHO.

Have you checked the valves? Cores maybe need tightening up.
Could it be leaking around the rim. Sometimes if the laquer finish on the wheels is damaged the alloy corrodes and the tyre bead won't seal properly?

Hi Tatts. Most slow leaks are caused by dogs peeing on car wheels, the urine reacts with the ally and causes tiny bubles to form and eventually air starts to escape..

The cure is, take the tyre off and run some emery cloth round the rims. My local garage did mine for me at a fiver a wheel including balancing. and I have had no problems with them since. The wheels that is.. heh heh..

Hi mate, most likely cause is the rims corroding between the tyre and rim.
MGR alloys aren't exactly known for they're corrosion resistance.

A tyre place should be able to sort out cleaning them up and re-seating the tyres. I would avoid the tyre foam like the plague.

Dogs have a tendency to pee in a favourite spot.....you could end up spending a fortune if a mutt takes a fancy to your motor. Must say, I've never heard this one before, though!

Off to the tyre place then Monday!

I've instructed my dog NOT to use my wheels as a cocking post anymore, but I doubt he'll listen to me!
