Rover specialists in Yorkshire?
Does anyone know of a garage in Yorkshire which has the specialist knowledge required for so many of the jobs on our cars? My annual service and MoT are due in April and I would rather entrust the work to someone who knows what he's doing, especially as there are a couple of extra jobs to do this year which I don't feel competent to tackle myself. (One is to fit the handbrake compensator; the other is to fix the horn - this is likely to involve removing the front end.)

Try Andy Newall (Andy's Autos), based in Clifton. Ex MGR technician. Number is 07909834765 (as of summer 2011!).

Hi Charles hope you get these sorted but if someone from the club lives close to you they would pop round and give you a hand the two things you have mentioned you could do yourself Using the Howto's on here

I can vouch for Andy, he's worked on my car, top bloke who knows what he's doing.
There is also Drakes garage at Shiptonthorpe out on the A1079 towards Hull. They are an ex MG Rover garage, but still have one or two MG Rover technicians, as well as a container full of spares. |

I'm just around the corner from Drakes in Shiptonthorpe and always found them to be on the expensive side. Shame really.

Thanks, chaps. Andy's Autos is only 10 minutes from me, so it sounds as though he's the man to try.
I know I could, in theory, do the jobs myself but I'd be happier having them done by someone who knows what he's doing. |

meet
you could always wait and attend the next "spanner meet "at doncaster (if not needed urgent) , I did my compensator and "o" there with guidance and help from stocktake and unclefista. There was lots getting sorted on the saturday...good banter to boot.

I certainly hope to attend the next spanner meet at Doncaster and the handbrake compensator could wait until then - it's not urgent, as the car should pass its MoT as it stands. The horn will have to be done before the MoT, however, and that's in April.

I just want to issue a word of warning about Drakes of Shiptonthorpe. I bought a Rover 45 that they sold new, and maintained until I bought it. Some of the bodges were unbelievable, and not to mention a very bad head gasket job.
I'd avoid if i were you. |
