Default Petrol: premium versus economy?

Reading the thread "What lurks at the bottom of the tank?" prompts me to ask whether there is any benefit to buying branded petrol rather than the cheaper supermarket variety. I generally buy my petrol at Sainsbury's and have never had any problems but I know some people say you get what you pay for.

Thanks for directing me to the previous thread, and apologies for having raised the same subject again so soon - I must have missed it. Opinion seems to be fairly evenly divided, with some people reporting horror stories about the consequences of using cheap fuel and others who have always used it with no problems. No point in rehashing the debate here so I will say no more on the subject.
