If I make it that long, I'll be in my 70's, and probably won't be too bothered as I will have a car that runs on LPG, and I'm sure I can pump that out of a 47 kg Calor gas bottle if need be

You have to hand it to the environmentalist lobby, I wonder what they would say if they couldn't walk down to the shops in their sandals and buy their groceries, because the wagon delivering it had run out of charge half way to the shops

Probably impractical at the moment but not impossible - but as the technology develops I am sure the options will develop.
Not impossible. Being done.

How about a car built largely from recycled parts in 40 days in a backyard for under £10,000 that smashes range issues?

You honestly think that they have thought it through that far??????

I seriously doubt that. Most of their ideas are not even half baked.

You won't get a 47 in a car! It would go in the Tourer but the seats will have to go down....You could use an 18 KG...

instead of a scrappage scheme why not offer incentives for lpg conversions for petrol cars, not sure what could be done for the doozal cars though.

time to set up montys LPG conversion buisness

Now we're talking why would I even consider buying a Renault Zoe, or a Nissan Leaf, when you have the Lucid Air on the horizon.
I'm sure that price will come down... eventually...

2040 is a meaningless date anyway as the internal combustion engine will have suffered a natural death a long time before then. It's like the smartphone vs dumb phone argument a few years back, for a long time smartphones existed however their size and poor battery life meant that only us hardcore geeks could compromise enough to have one and then all of a sudden they shrank, the batteries improved and very quickly they took over. I think now that we're starting to get electric cars with a range of 2-300 miles and rapid charging the swing away from petrol and diesel will be very rapid. I think that within the next 5 years a majority of new cars sold will be pure ev's and that within 10 years ICE based cars will be very few and far between.

I think the interesting thing is that most people that dismiss electric cars have never driven one and on the other hand most people that do drive one are instantly converted.
