It is noticeable that every time someone gives up the Marque another joins or re-joins Welcome back and she looks a beaut in X Power Grey - same as mine.

I know how you feel. I absconded for an S type which was a beautiful drive but unreliable and rot, and an x type that was agricultural, unreliable and rot. Getting back in a 75 last August was like putting on a favourite pair of shoes.

Are the Jag S and X really that bad for rot - i like the S type - and the V8 is something to consider

I loved driving the S Type, (2.7D). It was incredibly smooth and pretty quick. Unfortunately, I lost count of the number of times it kicked into get home mode. Then the rot! The sills have plastic covers which trap dirt and moisture and makes it very hard to see what's underneath. They rot around the rear subframe mountings. On mine, although the front looked sound, the front n/s suspension broke through where it had corroded from inside.

Before you think too deeply about buying one, I suggest you go through Ebay or Autotrader and look up the mot history as well as current mot status of all the S Types advertised. It is rare to find a good one.
