Default Belts changed - PO 340 Warning Light on

Just had belts, pump and tensioner changed - warning light on - error code PO 340 - Camshaft Position Sensor A circuit

So we are looking at a faulty cam sensor / wiring fault , faulty crank sensor but in view of the recent belt change the following listed cause for this code has grabbed my attention

Stretched or misaligned timing components

Booked back into the garage to look at the belts. They are confident the belt has been aligned correctly.

Yep Dave - that the consensus of the various sites - if the cam wiring looks OK then it will be out by a tooth - the garage reckons they measured up correctly but i have asked the boss to give the belts the once over. Saying that she runs fine and the idle is OK.

Even with the timing tool , some engines can still end up a tooth out

On One of our 1.8's we actually fit the belt a tooth out and once the engine is rotated by hand a couple of revolutions it aligns correctly Put the belt on with timing marks aligned it ends up a tooth out after a couple of revolutions
One of the reasons you should always rotate the engine by hand to check alignments
Not a hard job to check on a 1.8

A tooth out won't throw a light up Martin, you might need to plug in and clear the fault as I have had this happen when timing a 1.8 T4 cleared the issue.
