Battery
Hi Guys, battery for 1.8? the one on my car looks rather small and is only 55amp, been doing some work on her today, door open for hours, inside light on (dummy) went to start, flat battery, 11.45volts across the terminals, handbook says it should be 65amp, what's a good battery to get that will fit, thanks.

Have a look on halfords or eurocarparts website, in my experience 5 year guarantee batteries have a better starting power and better length of off charge service.

If you wanted something with a bit more oomph, you could get one for a diesel? I think the connectors are the same, they only just fit in the battery box!

A battery with only a 1/4 charge will start your car and you won't know any different. Why waste money ?? Your flat battery will take at least 24 hours on a 4 amp charger to fully charge it. Give it another chance before you start chucking your money about unnecessarily. Colvert. |

Further to the above post.
If you think your alternator will fully charge your battery you're wrong unless you drive around 30 hours a week on average journeys. ( the equivalent to 24 hours on a charger. ) Colvert. |

Be worth putting battery on slow charge to bring back up into condition, if you had radio on too will draw current at low constant rate and reduce amperage so unable to start. Modern cars are very power hungry and can have several systems running even on Acc position.
Typically you will have to do between 6 to 10 miles to replace the power used just from starting the car. Hence why some people have battery problems if they do lots short journeys especially in winter with lights, heaters and demist on drawing more power. |
