Fuel Leak
Got a weird problem...
I've had a buildup of fuel around the injectors, and my economy is a little down on usual. It leaves the top of the inlet manifold visibly damp. At one point I noticed the fuel overflow / return hose coming from the top of the injectors was damp so I replaced it in case it was leaking - but still got same problem. Does anyone have any ideas?! |

I've had this and found the return pipe damp. Dried everything off and wrapped tissue paper around all the pipes. Ran the engine at idle and it turned out to be a weeping HP pipe connection to one of the injectors.
Tightened it up and all was good again. |

Yes with the engine cover off wrap the tissue around the pipes that go from the common rail to the injectors. It was one of the pipe connections that was leaking on mine.
After running the engine at idle for around 5 minutes the tissue around the weeping pipe union just started to show damp. Item 6 here: http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID001958 |

There are nuts on the pipes, I assume he meant those. I doubt such a tiny leak would affect your mpg. Someone last week suggested the PCV as a possible cause, if the filter needs replacing, internal pressure can blow oil out of the PCV seals - which might appear to be a diesel leak from an injector.
