What does Project Drive Mean
Hi guys just a quick question from a newbie/complete Rover novice. I have been reading a lot of threads on here regarding different things. One thing that I keep popping up is either pre-project drive or just project drive. What does this mean as never heard it before

Project drive was an attempt by management to make the 75 cheaper without compromising safety/quality etc.. so things like reflectors in the jam of the doors, badges on the C-pillar, embossed front headrests all went in the bin..

Project Drive was a cost cutting initiative by Rover starting at the end of 2000 I believe. They deleted or modified MAINLY minor detailing items to save money. Examples include things like changing the walnut dash from real wood to a plastic veneer finish, but the list of all changes is a very long one. I'm sure someone will be along with a link shortly.. But if you have a 75 that's after 2000/2001, all I can say is, Welcome to the party...!
(most of us like to reverse these cost cutting changes). |

As has been said, project drive was basically a process of cost-saving.
Here's a very useful guide, courtesy of Reebs. http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...ad.php?t=34369

Did'nt the coolant pipework (behind the Rad) change at the same time, I think the pipes are thinner, which might explain the drop in capacity. Also, didnt the oil cooiler change as well?

Yes it did. There's two types of oil cooler and coolant pipes for the V6. The thinner coolant pipes would save on both the cost of the metals to make the pipes, and the cost of coolant. To individual owners, the cost is negligible, but to a company mass producing thousands, the costs soon add up. Another example of this mentality is the deletion of seat belt bolt covers.

So even though mine is a '51' Plate it still has quite a few things pre-Project Drive including the older 3 stickers, earlier Boot Badge, proper Door Reflectors, Driver's Door Grab and even those Bolt Covers etc! Although you can still get those new..... http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-BTR8356PMA
