Default Lack of torque?

Whilst entertaining the gas man the other day, he noticed my V6 parked in the drive and revealed that he had just bought an X plate with little over 100k on the clock. After the usual tribulations of what he might expect - problem wise, a lengthy list - he mentioned his car struggled on inclines. Funnily enough, I have experienced that ever since I got our car 4 years ago. I thought it was just our car but obviously not. Has anyone else been experiencing this problem? Is there a lack of torque on the 2.5 V6 ? I'm hoping that once 'Shiner' - hope you're reading this - replaces my engine, this might resolve this issue....

Most likely one of or both the VIS motors have gone. My old V6 struggled up hills too and it was the VIS motor that was the issue. Also, check our CAT isn’t blocked either as that will also strangle power.

Hi, nah. we had the VIS refurbed a few months back and as the car has been serviced regularly I wonder if its engine based issue. On a 1:10 incline, its quite embarrassing with cars backing up if we haven't had a run at the start of the incline!

Not sure if your car has one of these, but there is a little stick near your left leg, if you move that to a lower number, the car will move quite rapidly uphill
Sorry, couldn't resist

Ha, if only! We just get higher revs, more noise and anxious faces within the car that something might explode!

You're not alone; the KV6 is not a particularly torquey engine; the remapped diesel has loads more at lower revs. On my automatic, I have to either gently kick down or manually select 2nd to get up an incline more quickly. You tap the KV6's power by revving it. Daft thing is that the auto doesn't think it needs to change down when tackling a steepish incline, but when starting off on one, it won't change up until you're over the top!

As minty says the v6 isn’t known for low down power, shame really.

Ah...ok, thanks guys. That is quite a flaw especially when you live close to the north downs with plenty of hills!

Ive got both kv6 2.5 versions and a diesel .
The kv6 engines do lack low down torque and you really need to kick the pedal down to get the auto to kick down but on an open highway it has long legs.
The turbo diesel however goes like a rocket, fast off the mark and instant acceleration up hills and runs on the smell of an oily rag.
I will say my auto mgzt kv6 does have more zip than the Rover 75 versions and for some reason the auto changes are way more responsive than the 75.

Ok, that I guess more or less confirms it was badly designed. Never heard this mentioned on Top Gear when they reviewed it back in the day!
